Affirmations of lowliness towards uplifting ourselves with Ein Od Milvado awareness by Rosh Chodesh Kislev – a 40 day effort in emunah

affirmations for emunah  click the link to the left to print this page

bitu shifliss definitions for the purposes of understanding our work:

Happiness is the byproduct of learning Torah, praying fervently to Hashem and emulating His 13 Attributes of Mercy.

Clinging like glue to serving Hashem in this way lifts us out of the whirlpool of emotions that might otherwise draw us into a vortex pulling us under.

Choice: compassion for the light trapped in the darkness of the constriction that is trying to come into the world by virtue of our action and speech vs compassion for ourselves and trying solutions for our own comfort in time and space.

The narrow passageway from our mind to heart is the place of our constricted thinking.  It is where the tzelem elokim and the yetzer hara both want to be expressed through our hearts and into our actions and speech.  Keeping in mind what real happiness is therefore changes the way we look at our constricted thinking.   Below is a five step affirmation of Torah values to lead us in the path we want to go, to help us navigate through our emotions and habits, in order to reflect something into the world that would, indeed, bring light and happiness and align us with the only true reality, Hashem’s Glory.

Summary Affirmations of the Torah

Ein od milvado – there is nothing in the world but Hashem

Man is made in the image of Hashem’s 13 Attributes of Mercy (Hashem glorifies us with a tzelem elokim made in the image of His 13 attributes of mercy)

Free will: Everything is in the hands of Shamayim, except for Yir’as Shemayim” Berachos 33 (h) (R. Chanina) (bear the burden of confusion of our own mind immediately chooses our tzelem elokim as our identity over the natural taivas and gaivas. We have free will to choose who we become and the mesiras nefesh is our personal akeidas Yitzchok)

Personal Prayer – the power of speech: Air (aleph, vav, vav, yud, raish) is light (aleph vav raish) plus two letters of Hashem’s Name yud and vav (Saying Hashem Echad releases breath and therefore light from the constricted presentation)

How long wilt thou conceal from me the light of the blessed En Sof, which pervades all the worlds; which was, is, and will be the same, including also this place where I stand, just as the light of blessed En Sof was alone before the world was created, without any change is  written, “for I , the Lord have not changed, for He transcends time..” Likutei Amarim Ch 29 p. 129 (recognize the constricted presentation as Hashem’s light from the upper worlds coming to our ruach in order that we bear the burden of the confusion of mind so as to speak Hashem Echad and have compassion on the Shechina so that it may be released through our words Hashem Echad forming a positive spiritual being that leads us in the path we want to go for healing and brachas.)

Ein od milvado – when a person subjugates and attaches the purity of his thoughts in the one Master only, then Hashem will nullify all of the forces in the world against him so that they won’t have any power at all

The reward of a commandment is the commandment itself , because by virtue of performing it, the person suffuses a flood of light of the blessed En Sof from above downards, to be clothed in the corporealit of the world, in something that was previously under the dominion of the kelipat nogah, from which it had received its vitality (Tanya ch. 37 p. 167)

Affirmations with Torah Sources for reading and reflection

  1. Ein od milvado – there is nothing in the world but Hashem

We experience something that causes us to feel constriction.

Hashem constricts Himself in order to come into this world. See excerpts below interspersed from Derech Hashem 1. Chapters 1 and 2: The Creator and The Purpose of Creation p. 35-43

“It can …be verified from the laws and principles of nature that it is impossible that some Being not exist, unbound by the laws and limitations of nature. It must be impossible that this Being cease to exist or have any deficiency. This being must furthermore be divorced from all addition, structure, relationship, comparison or any other quality that exists in created things. Finally this Being must be the true cause of everything that exists and happens. Unless all this is true, the existence and continuance of things as we know them would be utterly impossible.”

“It is impossible that there exist more than one being whose existence is intrinsically imperative. Only one being can possibly exist with this necessarily perfect Essence, and therefore the only reason all other things have the possibility of existence is that Gd wills them to exist. “

  1. Man is made in the image of Hashem’s 13 Attributes of Mercy

Micah 7:18-20 Who O Gd is like You, Who pardons iniquity And overlooks transgression for the remnant of His heritage: Who has not retained His wrath eternally, for He desires kindness@ He will again be merciful to us. He will suppress our iniquities. And cast int toe depths of the sea all their sins. Grant truth to Jacob, kindness to Avraham, As You swore to our forefathers from ancient times.

“The purpose of the creation of mankind is so that we should become worthy of attaining true good, namely being drawn close to Him in the world to come. “

When we experience constricted consciousness, Hashem is bearing the burden of our confusion of mind. He waits patiently.

III. Free will: Everything is in the hands of Shamayim, except for Yir’as Shemayim” Berachos 33 (h) (R. Chanina)

(i) Question: Is Yir’as Shamayim such a small matter?!

(R. Chanina): Hashem’s treasure-house contains only Yir’as Shamayim — “Yir’as Shamayim Hi Otzaro” (it is most dear to Hash-m)!

Yir’as Shamayim, fear of punishment, is indeed easy. R. Chanina did not discuss this, for it is bi’Yedei Shamayim (Hash-m punishes others to instill fear in Bnei Yisrael)! Rather, he discusses an intellectual awe of His greatness. For those who saw the radiance of Moshe and feared to approach him, it was simple to similarly fear Hash-m.)

(k) R. Chanina: This is like one who is asked for a large vessel. If he has it, it is like a small vessel;

If one is asked for a small vessel and he lacks it, it is like a big vessel. (He feels his lack acutely).

“…even though the created things cannot emulate Gd’s perfection in their own right, the fact that they can be attached to Him allows them to partake of it, since they can be considered part of G’ds perfection as a result of their association with Him. They can thus derive pleasure from that true good to the greatest degree possible for them. The purpose of all that was created was therefore to bring into existence a creature who could derive pleasure from Gd’s own good, in a way that would be possible for it.”

“Gd. Therefore decreed and arranged that creation contain elements of both perfection and deficiency, as well as a creature with equal access to both. This creature would then be given the means to both acquire perfection and avoid deficiency. By clinging to the elements of perfection, this unique creature would make itself resemble its Creator, at least to the degree that this is possible for it. …it becomes worthy of being drawn close to Gd, to derive pleasure from His goodness. “

With free will, we can immediately upon feeling constriction choose to bear the burden of our own discomfort of mind with all of the above in mind, knowing that in the constriction is Hashem’s light that He has concealed in the matter in order to enter time and space and give us the opportunity to release through prayer from its exile in our constricted thinking.

IV Personal Prayer – the power of speech: Air (aleph, vav, vav, yud, raish) is light (aleph vav raish) plus two letters of Hashem’s Name yud and vav

Our breath and our speaking involves light and Hashem.

There is No Other Power

Hosea 14: 2-4 Return O Israel to Hashem your Gd for you have stumbled through your iniquity. Take words with you and return to Hashem; say to Him, “forgive every sin and accept goodness , and let our lips substitute for bulls. Assyria cannot help us, we will not ride the horse, nor will the orphan find compassion.”

“If we understand that Gd alone is the true perfection, it follows that in nature and in creations every fault is merely the absence of His good and the concealment of His Presence. That is, closeness to Gd and Illumination of His presence is the root and cause of every perfection that exists, while concealment of His Presence is the root and cause of every fault, the degree of deficiency depending on the degree of this concealment.”

“When this creature strengthens himself striving for elements of perfection, incorporating them into his being, this in a way is a means of clinging to Gd, as He is their Root and Source. The more elements of perfection this creature incorporates into itself, the stronger will be his association and bond to Gd. He becomes attached to Gd Himself, deriving both pleasure and perfection from His goodness, while he is himself the master of this good and perfection, having acquired them by choosing them.”

V “How long wilt thou conceal from me the light of the blessed En Sof, which pervades all the worlds; which was, is, and will be the same, including also this place where I stand, just as the light of blessed En Sof was alone before the world was created, without any change is  written, “for I , the Lord have not changed, for He transcends time..” Likutei Amarim Ch 29 p. 129

“The creature destined for this great condition, namely a bond of closeness to Him is considered the main element of all creation. All else in existence is only an aid, in some aspect or regard, toward this goal, to have it succeed and become reality. They are therefore all considered secondary to this primary creature.”

This primary essential creature is man. All other created things, whether above or below man, only exist for his sake to complete his environment through their various different qualities, appropriate for each of them. …The element of perfection which man must strive to perfect in himself are his intellect and his positive character traits. On the other hand for the sake of acquiring perfection, the elements of deficiency that man must avoid are the material and mundane matters of the world, and negative character traits.

“The deterrents to Holiness are a lack of true understanding and much association with people; for earthiness finds it counterpart and takes on new strength, and the soul remains trapped within it, unable to escape. However, when one dissociates himself from them and remains alone, preparing himself for the reception of His Holiness, he is conducted along the path which he wishes to travel; and with the help that Gd gives him, his soul grows strong within him, overcomes his physical element, unites itself with the Holiness of the blessed One and perfects itself in it….his understanding coming to transcend the bounds of human nature. “ Mesillas Yesharim The Trait of Holiness p. 335

When we clean for Passover, we search for chometz, searching for areas where we seek to wrench free from Torah and mitzvahs without realizing we are enslaved to a bad habit or faulty programming or an arrogance we exhibit as part of our self-protective mechanisms.   The goal is to retrain our inclination to serve Hashem, which is the work we do during sefiros HaOmer, expanding through chesed, contracting with gevurah, balancing with compassion and then expanding our deeds with netzach, humbling ourselves with hod, and bonding it together with yesod before bringing it into the world of action. These internal “actions” are the war between our yetzer hara and our tzelem elokim and with clinging to Hashem we are able to resolve them into Hashem is One and bring His Light into time and space with our own unique talents and challenges improved, opening the door to time and space for His Light, as is His Will in creating the world.

Although the process of Pesach, Omer, Shavuous is full of Hashem’s chesed during that time of year, the elements are needed as we begin the new year, while we plant the seeds that will lead to the crops of Shavuous.  The work of facing what we need to in order to get our year off the ground is in need of understanding and yearning for holiness, so that as we get our year off the ground, we can begin to see it take root in a manner that will yield the growth we seek.   All of our energy in this regard goes into the time leading to Chanukah, a time where we glue ourselves to Hashem’s Holiness after crowning HIm King in Tishrei.  The step by step affirations help to lead us from construction to opportunity with understanding to compassionately release the Ein Sof concealed in the constriction and receive a healing and a growth as it is added to our ability to reflect tzelem elokim.

VI. Ein od milvado – when a person subjugates and attaches the purity of his thoughts in the one Master only, then Hashem will nullify all of the forces in the world against him so that they won’t have any power at all
The person who resolves to nullify every force and power in the world and doesn’t pay attention to them at all will make spiritual decrees and they will happen so he will be able to do wonderful miracles which are the opposite of the natural order of nature. This occurs because he subjugates and attaches the purity of the faith in his heart onl to Hashem without stopping.
VII. 37 p. 167)
When a person performs the Divine commandment and will by means of these clean things, the vitality that is in them (the kelipa noga, the luminescent shell, which is the only one of the four levels of evil that contains something redeemable) ascends and is dissolved and absorbed into the light of the blessed Eh Sof which is His blessed will that is clothed in them, since therein there is no concealment of Countenance whatever, to obscure His blessed light….when the totality of the viral soul of the community of Israel will be a holy merkevah for Gd, then shall the general vitality of thus world, now constituting the kelipat nogah, emerge from its impurity and filth and ascend unto holiness to become a merkavah for Gd, through the revelation of His glory, and all flesh shall see together and He will shine forth on them with the splendor of His majestic greatness and the whole world will be filled with the glory of the Lord, .. pl 171
In this way, all three unclean kelipot will be completely destroyed and annihilated, for their present nurture and vitality from holiness comes to them through the medium of the kelipot noga, ….p 173

Erev Rosh Hashana – Teshuva with forgiveness today, the last day of the year, before we crown Hashem King

It is the last day of the year.  We can come to a new mission for the year until we light candles!  No shame, no blame!  Be empowered to understand that we are Hashem’s Kallah and we are here to do our mission that He designs so that His Glory is seen in time and space.

The 10 days of Teshuva begin on Rosh Hashana and conclude on Yom Kippur.

During Selichos and the 10 days of teshuva, we can use the four steps of teshuva to help us return as well as to beseech Hashem for forgiveness for ourselves and for all Klal Yisrael

Teshuva

Stop the aveira, confess it, and regret it

Hashem I see that I have done something wrong. Thank you for bearing the burden of my confused mind all this time! I see my confusion! I fell victim to the yetzer hara by…… I see the error and if it was willful I see that willfulness as another error, a confusion of mind. Out of total love for You, I am bearing the burden of my own confusion of mind and have stopped and am making a different choice. Out of compassion for the Shechina, I totally regret having pulled the Shechina or kept the Shechina in the galus of my sin/error, unhealthy pattern. With emunah, I wish to reorganize all this energy in fervent prayer and I ask for forgiveness so that instead I may use the energy to reflect Torah and Your Attributes into the world.

My plan for the future – Please see I am sincere

Hashem I have done a cheshbon and in that introspection I see that the error/sin was due to a blindness that stems from a natural or learned urge, specifically, I mistakenly thought happiness would come from……. And I realize that happiness comes only from learning Torah, fervent prayer to You, and emulating Your 13 Attributes of Mercy

If at this point the next thought is something that is blaming another person or circumstances, notice this and say Hashem I realize that You Alone set my behira. I do not wish to blame anyone, certainly not Hashem! Rather, because it came from You, and because all there is in the world is You, I realize there is a positive choice that You desire from me in fulfillment of my role within Nishmas Am Yisrael. Because You have given this matter in assignment to me and everything You do is good, there is something I am responsible to do teshuva for and hopefully I ask that the teshuva have a ripple effect to benefit klal yisrael.

Forgiveness

Align with Hashem’s 13 Attributes of Mercy to stimulate forgiveness from above

It was You Who decided to present me with the challenge that I failed and with awe in Hashen for how He creates the world, meaning that Hashem has given each of us a neshama empowered to heal the matter, I choose to forgive all the parties who might be involved and all the parties who might have affected those parties, as many generations back as it might go. With love in my heart, I desire to do Your Will and my plan for the future is whenever I find myself in that situation or state of mind, to instead remember my love for You so that I emulate You and forgive it, overlook it, be patient with it, and in so doing, ask that the Shechina released from the galus of my pattern/natural urge instead be used by You to wipe away my error and forgive all of Klal Yisrael for similar errors/aveiras for all time. May my forgiveness remove the mask over the Shechina so that energy comes into the world as a revealed blessing!

Apologize

Hashem I am sorry for the damage that I have done to Your Name and to the world. There is no glory in the world other than You. I thank you for helping me find the place of fear of abandonment or fear of annihilation within me where I stumbled and sinned. With love in my heart to serve You, I fervently pray that all my heart and all my soul and all my might be used with complete awareness that we are never abandoned or annihilated in a two world picture. I hope that my plan of emulating You in order to create bracha and forgiveness for Klal Yisrael is pleasing to You and ask that all the destructive beings I created as well as any destructive beings created that impacted the matter now become merits that benefit all klal yisrael and tip the scales in Your Eyes to make our generation meritorious for redemption,.

More on opening our hearts to reflect Hashem’s light

How can we truly observe the laws of loving our fellow Jew when we experience irritation, insult, or worse due to the deeds or words or lack thereof for which we fault others?

The image of ourselves that we project, our ego image, can feel shattered and we may experience feelings of being rejected, annihilated or of being irrelevant.  What good can come from this?

We are made in the image of Hashem. NOT the image that our ego rooted in the kelipas of taiva/desire and gaiva/arrogance  persists in projecting.

Imagine if we could truly n a more and more natural way project our image made in the image of Hashem”s 13 Attributes of Mercy.  Would the world be a better place for it?  I think so.

We have real free will.   Hashem gives us a starter image based on having an unconscious and subconscious mind that develops our personality and is the source of our thoughts, emotions and deeds.  Yet there is something above thought emotion and deed, and that is real free will.  It is super rational.  It is not based on human logic or human emotions.  We have the ability to choose a super rational will based on Torah values.  There is a dimension of our soul that is not just in time and space, not just enlivening our existence.  And that part of our soul is completely 100% certain at all times that the only Glory in the world is Hashem’s Glory.  That part of us is not in doubt.  It experiences pleasure when we do Hashem’s will and it experiences pain when we fall short. We in our bodies may or may not experience the pleasure or pain of our soul because we have a covering over our soul that is tremendously distracting, albeit external to the soul.

Thus sets the stage for our interactions with each other.  Shall we rely on what we can sense experientially or shall we pursue attempting to expand our access to something more?

In order to pursue expanding ourselves into something more, we run to Hashem’s 13 Attributes of mercy as a city of refuge by being patient.  When we are in emotional pain Hashem bears our confusion of mind.  He allows Himself to be in ouir darkness until we ourselves make a choice to release our tzelem elokim from that dark place.  Thus, our first step is to also bear our own confusion of mind and in so doing, we take the very first step towards ahavas yisrael as well as ahavas Hashem.

With love for Hashem we choose to emulate Him by bearing our own discomfort of mind.  From that place, aligned with His Middos, a shift has been made for which we have created a positive spiritual being to lead us n the path we desire to go.  By submitting to our love for Hashem enough to emulate Him, we demonstrate to Him that we truly love Him.  Immediately, our love for Him triggers awareness that we pulled or almost pulled Him into the darkness, and because we are aligned we have compassion for Hashem for His tolerating us and bearing the burden of our confusion of mind in that moment we felt negatively towards another. Why?

In order for Hashem to come into time and space, He must constrict Himself.  Hashem is hidden here.  If He were not, there would not be a revealed world.  All we would see is Hashem’s light.  Thus Hashem constricts Himself.  That means when we are in constricted thinking, it is coming from a constriction from Hashem, through our unconscious and subconscius.  The goal is 100% to give us a choice, shall we unmask Hashem’s light from the constriction and through our brain to heart circuitry reflect His 13 attributes into the world, or shall we fall victiim to the yetzer hara pulling us with its logic and violating our intuitive sense to do so with real life examples and rationales for holding onto something negative.   Perhaps this is why there are specific mitzvahs of the Torah to not hold a grudge, to not hate another Jew in our heart, and to not take revenge.  With clear guidelines, it helps us move back to align with the Source for all happiness, learning Torah fervent prayer, and emulating Hashems 13 Attributes of Mercy.   The very first of Hashem’s 13 Attributes of Mercy is tolerating insults.  Much of the time, we hope to  just reach thatl!!

Bearing the burden of our confusion of mind leads to compassion for Hashem and a desire to release what is stored in our memories, personalities, old patterns, faulty beliefs, broken images and more so that the light trapped there can flow through us with the added strength of having come from the natural kelipas, thereby shoring up the holes in our intuitive mind through which the logic of the yetzer hara is designed to draw off even more tzelem elokim.  But if we have the AWARENESS of what is happening, and the LOVE for Hashem, and the PATIENCE and AWE to draw upon our emunah to reorganize everything, we land in a super rational place, and that is the role of being Nishmas Am Yisrael.

Everything in heaven wants expression in time and space and everything in time and space wants to be uplifted to heaven. Nishmas Am Yisrael is the vessel through which Hashem’s Glory can be reflected into this world and our choices generate strengthend light, meaning that more is added to what flows through us more naturally when we seek to emulate Hashem.

Loving our fellow Jew is a mitzvah that heals us of the places where our pursuit of happiness fell into the faulty thinnking that happiness can be attained through goals of  time and space.   The more we remember to bear the burden of our confusion of mind, the more we reassociate happiness with learning Torah, fervent prayer and emulating Hashem’s 13 ATtributes of mercy.  and the more happiness we associate with learning Torah, fervent prayer and emulating Hashem’s 13 ATtributes of mercy, the more we make ourselves in His Image, our true eternal image.  And that becomes more and more natural over the ego urges.  These choices which are before us every moment of every day tell Hashem by our effort that we love Him and want HIm in this world so much.  The effort to be mesiras nefesh in this way literally transforms us more and more.

Loving our fellow Jew becomes a mitzvah that we do to heal our image from natural ego image to an image made in Hashem’s image.  It shows Hashem that we are sincere n wanting Him in this world  And there is one more crucial step.

Forgiveness.

Whatever was holding us back was probably do to human nature or old programming and it is easy to slip into blaming others or circumstances as an excuse for why we should be forgiven.  The key improvement to that thinking is to understand that we are all products of generations of adaptation, coping and more just to survive, adopting current social tactics and norms into our thinking.  At some point, it is up to us to flip the entire matter back into service of Hashem, releasing all the light that has been trapped in the suffering of our people. By simply forgiving whomever set our behira point, not only do we build a new image to project, but we also create forgiveness for all the generations preceding us whose suffering may have been so great that they could not do the mitzvah of having compassion on the Shecbina trapped in their confusion of mind.

May we each understand that we are Nishmas Am Yisrael here to reflect Hashem, the King, into the world, a people who desire to do so out of love and awe for Hashem, and who hope to make a kiddush Hashem with every moment of our lives. and may our forgiving what we need to in order to draw into our natural reactions more and more of Hashem’s attributes of mercy create an arousal from below to stimulate Hashem to send us Moshiach to truly lead us through the redemptive process, b’ahava.

Teshuva and forgiveness. Creating an arousal from below. There is No Glory other than Hashem!! He is King

We start selichos today  In so doing we call upon Hashem’s 13 Attributes of Mercy.  Hashem glorifies us with a soul that is made in His Image.  We are asking Him for forgiveness.  Let us, as part of emulating Him, consider that as we do teshuva, consider the tremendous impact our forgiveness can have.

In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. – Words of Anne Frank relevant for today

Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl

Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person’s character lies in their own hands.

People will always follow a good example; be the one to set a good example, then it won’t be long before the others follow..

I don’t think of all the misery, but of the beauty that still remains… My advice is : “Go outside, to the fields, enjoy nature and the sunshine, go out and try to recapture happiness in yourself and in God. Think of all the beauty that’s still left in and around you and be happy!”

“In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can’t build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery, and death. I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness, I hear the ever approaching thunder, which will destroy us too, I can feel the sufferings of millions and yet, if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end, and that peace and tranquility will return again.”

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As long as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles. Wednesday, 23 February 1944

  • How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before beginning to improve the world.
    • As quoted in God’s To-do List: 103 Ways to be an Angel and Do God’s Work on Earth (2007) by Ron Wolfson, Introduction, p. 17

The Diary (1942 – 1944)

Composed from her 13th birthday on 12 June 1942, until 1 August 1944, just prior to her family’s capture.

I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too, I feel the suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that this cruelty too shall end, and that peace & tranquility will return once again.

.

I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to people, even those I’ve never met. I want to go on living even after my death! And that’s why I’m grateful to God for having given me this gift, which I can use to develop and to express all that’s inside me!

  • For someone like me, it is a very strange habit to write in a diary. Not only that I have never written before, but it strikes me that later neither I, nor anyone else, will care for the outpouring of a thirteen year old schoolgirl.
  • Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don’t know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is!
  • A “food cycle” is a period in which we have only one particular dish or type of vegetable to eat. For a long time we ate nothing but endive. Endive with sand, endive without sand, endive with mashed potatoes, endive-and-mashed-potato casserole…
  • Forgive me, Kitty, they don’t call me a bundle of contradictions for nothing!
  • God never deserted our people. Right through the ages there were Jews. Through the ages they suffered, but it also made us strong.

I don’t believe that the big men, the politicians and the capitalists alone are guilty of the war. Oh, no, the little man is just as keen, otherwise the people of the world would have risen in revolt long ago! There is an urge and rage in people to destroy, to kill, to murder, and until all mankind, without exception, undergoes a great change, wars will be waged, everything that has been built up, cultivated and grown, will be destroyed and disfigured, after which mankind will have to begin all over again. May 3, 1944

  • I believe that in the course of the next century [as dated from June 13, 1944] the notion that it’s a woman’s duty to have children will change and make way for the respect and admiration of all women, who bear their burdens without complaint or a lot of pompous words!
  • I don’t want to have lived in vain like most people. I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to people, even those I’ve never met. I want to go on living even after my death! And that’s why I’m grateful to God for having given me this gift, which I can use to develop and to express all that’s inside me!
  • I have often been downcast, but never in despair; I regard our hiding as a dangerous adventure, romantic and interesting at the same time. In my diary I treat all the privations as amusing. I have made up my mind now to lead a different life from other girls and, later on, different from ordinary housewives. My start has been so very full of interest, and that is the sole reason why I have to laugh at the humorous side of the most dangerous moments.
  • I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too, I feel the suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that this cruelty too shall end, that peace and tranquility will return once more. (Saturday 15th of July, 1944)
  • I soothe my conscience now with the thought that it is better for hard words to be on paper than that Mummy should carry them in her heart.
  • If I read a book that impresses me, I have to take myself firmly by the hand, before I mix with other people; otherwise they would think my mind rather queer.
  • Is discord going to show itself while we are still fighting, is the Jew once again worth less than another? Oh, it is sad, very sad, that once more, for the umpteenth time, the old truth is confirmed: “What one Christian does is his own responsibility, what one Jew does is thrown back at all Jews.”
  • It’s difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It’s a wonder I haven’t abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart. I simply can’t build my hopes on a foundation of confusion, misery, and death. I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too, I feel the suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that this cruelty too shall end, and that peace & tranquility will return once again.

Click here to print the chart below: toolbox with correspondences

the chart is intended to give us a rock solid Torah basis to help counter the doubts the yetzer hara wants to draw us off with.  In order to be able to reflect Hashem’s 13 attributes into  the world and grow and strengthen ourselves as tzelem elokim, we need to be able to make it over the rocky terrain that is inevitable in struggling with life, by design.  that struggle , our effort to triumph torah prayer and emulating hashem over the natural urges, is the functioning that nourishes the universe and liberates the Shechina from the galus He agrees to be in here in worldly matters in order to give us real free choice.  thus making sure we have built our intellect and our vessel with Torah understanding helps us have a way to catch the light coming from both a positive or negative direction.  We will discuss the chart more tomorrow at www.arousalfrombelow.com
